About Accountably

We Are Building the Tool We Wish We Had.

No Secrecy. No “Stealth Mode.” Just Radical Transparency.

Most tech startups hide in “Stealth Mode” until they are perfect. They treat you like a metric to be captured. We are doing the exact opposite. We are building Accountably in public, sharing our code, our failures, and our lessons.

Why? Because addiction thrives in the dark. Recovery happens in the light.

The Origin Story: It Started With a Conversation

about accountably

It began with an offhand comment.

We were a group of friends—engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs. On the surface, we were successful. We hit our KPIs. We showed up at the gym.

But during a late-night conversation, the facade cracked. One of us admitted to losing hours every night to doomscrolling. Another admitted to a struggle with online gambling. A third admitted that pornography was destroying his self-confidence.

We realized we were all fighting the same silent war.

We looked for tools to help us. We found two options:

  1. “Sad Beige” Wellness Apps or “Masculine” solutions: Gentle, soft-spoken apps designed for general anxiety, or super aggressive and masculine ‘habit trackers’ which feel patronizing and ineffective for deep compulsion.
  2. “Digital Cages”: Aggressive blockers that treated us like children and were easily bypassed.

We realized that we didn’t need a “blocker” or a “meditation” app. We needed a Co-Pilot.

So, we built it.

Our Philosophy: Optimistic Futurism

If you look at most recovery tools, they look like prisons. Dark mode. Red warning signs. Locks. They reinforce the idea that you are broken and need to be contained.

We reject that narrative.

We designed Accountably using the Frutiger Aero aesthetic—the design language of the early 2000s (glossy textures, blue skies, humanism).

  • Why? Because it represents a time when the future felt bright.
  • The Vibe: Recovery shouldn’t feel like a punishment. It should feel like an upgrade.
  • The Goal: We want you to open the app because it feels good, not because you feel guilty.

The “Build in Public” Manifesto

We believe that Secrecy is the Enemy of Recovery. If we are asking you to be honest with our AI, we must be honest with you.

  1. Open Roadmap: We didn’t guess what features we needed. We asked. Our roadmap is public, and our users vote on what we build next.
  2. Failures Included: When we ship a bug, we tell you. When a feature doesn’t work, we explain why. We model the resilience we hope to inspire in you.
  3. Trust as a Product: In the age of AI, you cannot trust a “Black Box.” We explain exactly how our “Accountable Intelligence” works, where your data goes, and how we protect it.

Our Values

1. Empowerment, Not Control.

Technology should encourage you, not control you. We build tools that build your willpower, rather than replacing it. We are the spotter, not the weightlifter.

2. Privacy is a Human Right.

You are not a product. We charge a subscription fee because that means we work for you, not for advertisers. We will never sell your behavioral data. Your recovery is your business.

3. Growth Mindset.

We don’t believe in “Day 1” vs “Day 100.” We believe in Velocity. If you slip, you don’t reset to zero. You analyze the data, learn the lesson, and keep moving forward.

Meet the Intelligence

We aren’t just coding a chatbot. We are integrating the most advanced reasoning models available (Gemini 3) to create a “Therapeutic Alliance” between man and machine.

  • The Mission: To move the recovery market from “shame-based streak tracking” to “aspirational emotional fitness.”
  • The Vision: A world where technology empowers us to reconnect with reality, rather than escape from it.
